Exensys will Launch “On Device Portal” (ODP)
Exensys will Launch “On Device Portal” (ODP) for global customers. Mobile data services are enjoying rapid user growth and increasingly rich multimedia contents. With the increasing computing power of mobile devices, and increasing intertwining of mobile Internet with vast Internet contents and Internet ecosystem, Fixed-Mobile Convergence has become a major trend.
The term "On Device Portal" (ODP) is defined to be a "thin client" software providing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to improve the presentation of content on mobile devices and addressing the customer needs for easy access to rich content, without latency, easier navigation and "not-always-on" connectivity.
ODP is designed as an end-to-end portal solution to provide the user with seamless experience across multiple access channels, focusing on mobile Internet channels such as on-device widgets, WAP, messaging clients, etc., but complemented by a rich Web portal. Fundamentally, it is designed from the beginning to deliver across channels.
ODP is designed over an open Widget architecture, so that it can source both provider-specific media contents and open Internet contents, using well accepted Internet standards such as RSS/OPML, HTML/XML, most MIME contents, packaged contents, over HTTP/SOAP/FTP. This Widget architecture also serves as the foundation for On Device Portal to deliver contents to a variety of access channels and delivers specific contents such as search/promotion/advertisements across access channels in a flexible way.
Specifically, ODP offers a combination of one or more of the following three applications:
Offline Portal: A portal application that handles content in a way that the user perceives as always-on, instantly accessible experience.
Store-front: A client-server application mimicking the experience of walking past shop fronts.
Home-screen replacement: A client application that replaces the home (idle) screen of the handset, so that it constitutes the origin of every user journey.
ODP has now extended beyond embedded content consumption, home-screen and discovery into search, personalization, back-up, lifecycle management and advertising. Proprietary solutions (non-Java) and handset vendor-specific solutions to extend handset coverage have been developed by vendors.
